Kara Richard has been working as a professional hair colorist in the Santa Barbara area for the last 10 years. A Louisiana native, Kara relocated to California (a lifelong dream) to pursue a career in the arts. Almost immediately after moving to Santa Barbara, she discovered a new desire to study the art of hair and spent 3 years apprenticing in an upscale Santa Barbara salon before receiving her professional license. Kara’s career continues to flourish as she creates beautiful sunkissed looks with her signature Balayage techniques. She is known to give her guests a look that suits their lifestyle, and personality. She is able to listen to the wants and needs of her guests and communicate in a way that puts every woman at ease. Her engaging southern hospitality creates a unique atmosphere that is both fun and calming. Kara is best known for her signature Santa Barbara Balayage technique, and hair color corrections.Santa Barbara women are known for their natural beauty and Kara is a true believer that less is more. Specializing in balayage, a French technique meaning “to sweep”, her hand painted highlights have attracted many Santa Barbara locals who are seeking that California sunkissed look. Many clients come into the salon with hair color disasters, and Kara loves to dive in and put her skills to work! Her hair color corrections can turn one’s worst nightmare into a work of art. Her strong connection with people has made her realize that everyone wants and deserves to be heard, and she definitely expresses that through her work.
On-going education is always a top priority of Kara’s career and she has spent much of time studying from a wide array of platforms including, The American Board of Certified Haircolorists, Davines, Redken, R&CO, and Balayage workshops. Everyday is a new learning experience, and she loves sharing her knowledge with her clientele. She has now expanded her passion to education with her own series of Balayage/Hair Painting workshops, The Art of Sunkissed Hair.
